Scenic area and resort rides

In a resort or scenic area the ride is part of the view, not just a machine on a pad. Rides here need to sit quietly in a landscape, photograph well, tolerate seasonal operation and be maintainable by a small team that also runs everything else.

Ride selection for landscape settings

Flying chair and wave swinger

Open, elegant structures that read as sculpture rather than machinery, and photograph beautifully against a horizon or a treeline.

Pirate ship (24–36 seats)

Universally understood, gentle enough for mixed adult and family audiences, and smaller than a coaster so it fits around existing landscape features.

Observation wheel (30–66 m)

The clearest way to turn a view into an attraction. Slower, quieter and more weather-tolerant than a thrill ride, and it operates profitably with low staffing.

Drop tower (23 m)

A vertical accent that gives the site a landmark without consuming much ground — useful where land is protected or expensive.

Operational considerations for seasonal sites

  • Corrosion protection: hot-dip galvanising plus two-pack topcoat for coastal or high-humidity sites
  • Seasonal shutdown: documented mothballing procedure with restraint, bearing and electrical checks before restart
  • Small-team maintenance: choose rides with simple consumables and stocked parts rather than complex control systems
  • Weather policy: documented wind and rain limits, with anemometer recommendations for exposed locations
  • Visual integration: colour and finish matched to surrounding architecture and landscape, not left at factory default

Frequently asked questions

Which ride is best for a resort with a mixed adult and family audience?

A 24–36 seat pirate ship or a flying chair ride. Both are gentle enough for adults who do not want high thrills, visually appealing in a landscape, and cheap to staff and maintain.

Can a ride operate seasonally without damage?

Yes, with the right specification and shutdown procedure. Coastal and humid sites need hot-dip galvanising plus a two-pack topcoat, stainless fasteners and a documented mothballing routine covering bearings, restraints and electrical enclosures.

Do you supply observation wheels?

Yes. We supply wheels from 30 m to 66 m with cabin capacities from 4 to 6 passengers. Please contact us with your site and target capacity and we will prepare a specification.

How do we handle wind on an exposed site?

Operation is suspended above the wind speed stated in the manual — typically 15 m/s for most rides. For exposed locations we recommend a local anemometer at the ride and a documented wind policy in the operating manual.
